Some photographs are carefully planned.
Others happen in a split second.
This one was taken somewhere on my drive back from Sicily to Switzerland. Ahead of me was a car that looked as if it had packed an entire house onto its roof. Chairs, bags, boxes, blankets—you name it. It was one of those scenes that instantly makes you smile.
No, I didn’t stop to set up a perfect composition. I simply grabbed my phone (yes, safely and only for a quick snapshot) because I knew this was one of those moments I wanted to remember.
Travel has taught me that the best stories are rarely found in famous landmarks. They are hidden in everyday life, along ordinary roads, in unexpected encounters, and in moments you could never plan.
My Travelling
After more than twenty years of international business travel and countless personal road trips across the world, people often ask me if I still enjoy traveling.
My answer is always the same.
More than ever.
Because every journey reminds me how little I actually know. Every country has its own rhythm, every culture its own way of solving problems, and every road has the potential to surprise you.
That overloaded car wasn’t just carrying luggage. It was carrying a story.
Where had the family been? Where were they going? Were they moving to a new home? Returning from a holiday? Visiting relatives? I’ll never know. And maybe that’s exactly what makes travel so fascinating. Sometimes the unanswered questions are more beautiful than the answers.
As photographers, we often chase dramatic landscapes, perfect sunsets, or iconic locations. But I’ve learned that some of my favorite images are the ones that capture ordinary life. They remind me that travel isn’t only about places – it’s about people, cultures, and the countless little moments happening between Point A and Point B.
Those are the moments that stay with me long after I return home.
