Europe or America is in many ways a little different than Asia respectively Japan. I am very open to different culture and my behavior does not mean to offend other cultures; it is just the way I am used to it and I follow my habits – one of it is beer drinking.
Where I life, you can go to any restaurant you want to and have a beer, even McDonalds. I buy the beer, have a seat or get seated and order it with the server. When I spent my first night ever in Japan, in Shinjuku to be exact, I felt like to have a beer. While walking thru the streets of Shinjuku I found several places that advertised beer. For those of you who do not know me, I like beer. I went into one of the restaurants and ordered a beer by tablet. By the way, this is another difference between all the places I have been travelling to and Japan: In most of the cases, you will have to order using a tablet.
I finished my beer and ordered another one. I received the beer and was kindly asked if I want to order food. I refused because I wanted to eat something different. Later, I found out that in Shinjuku, there are dedicated places to only drink – and I was not in such a place…
Photography Tip:
Use the RAW file format and post process your photo later at home. There are certain things the camera is not aware of and often the white balance becomes an issue when taking photos at night, even the best camera cannot handle this correctly. The reason for this lies behind the different color temperatures of all the lights captured. I always capture my photos in the RAW format. The white balance does not matter at this point because I can “fix” this in Lightroom later. When capturing the photo at a JPG, then I would recommend to play with the white balance settings at your camera – there, it is not so easy to change it later on with no information loss.
