I am fascinated about the Dolomites! We have a lot of beautiful mountains in Switzerland, but the Dolomites is leveled up. I kept telling all my friends that the Dolomites are like the Swiss mountains, but only on steroids! I can’t say what it really is that made me so happy because the whole trip went anything else but planned.
Fist, it was raining so I had to make a detour thru the lake of Garda. I don’t have equipment that protects me or my gear from water or rain. And, I am also not interested in buying it, I rather stay home than walking in the rain to take moody photograph…
Second, when I have arrived in St. Ulrich, where I wanted to spend the night, everything was shut down. Because of the weather (see point one), I did only plan day by day. And yes, I saw there were not hotels available over at www.hotels.com but thought in St. Ulrich you have to book local to avoid the fees.
Third, I was forced to change the location to sleep (see point two) and therefore I had to change the order to drive to the highlights in the Dolomites. But hey, it’s a road trip! And that is the fun when not planning ahead of time and just get surprised about what happens next.
I was travelling the first time in the Dolomites, but I will definitely go back there!
Photography Tip:
Whenever you don’t see something on the screen of your camera, that doesn’t mean that the camera is broken. It could be that you wear polarized glasses, like me… Just take off your sunglasses before you look at photos on the camera screen.
