After a relatively long flight to Praia, I have arrived at the hotel at 1am. But I am in Santiago now! The first day was my regular scouting day where I try to see new things. And indeed, there are a lot of new things!
The whole culture here is way different from what I have ever seen before. People are friendly, the food is very good and (most important for a photographer), the landscape is not what I have expected!
It used to rain over the past few weeks and therefore the island turned green in the mountains. Yes, there are mountains – a thing I haven’t expected either! I took a day tour with a local guide, and we drove the whole island. Praia is where we started. There, everything is very dry. After 20 minutes driving, the ground started to change the color from yellow to green. With every mile driving, the ground became greener!
This photograph was a lucky punch – It was a matter of minutes. I haven’t even asked to stop for a photograph, but the driver pulled over, I got out and had literally like two minutes until the whole scene changed. It started raining, the whole foreground became blurry, the background was not lit up anymore etc…
Personal Quote:
Sometimes, I am getting lucky. It is what it is, and I can’t change the weather, lights, or the conditions. I was extremely lucky to take this photograph. This is what you need sometimes too. I often plan my photos, but I have to tell you, the best ones I ever did was just an accident.
