This was my second time in Milan for photography, and what a difference I have experienced! My first visit was during the pandemic, when the city felt almost empty, with hardly anyone around. I remember capturing a stunning shot of the Duomo without a soul in sight. It was surreal to have such an iconic spot all to myself.
Fast forward to this trip, and the scene was entirely different. The place was packed with people from all corners of the world. To even get close to the Duomo, I had to weave through the crowds. It’s amazing how much this virus changed, and Milan truly came alive this time.
Photography Tip: The Impossible Quest for an Empty Shot
I decided to step away for a while and return later in the evening, hoping to capture some photos with fewer people. But when I came back around midnight, the place was still buzzing with activity as if it were midday! It became clear – there was no way to erase all those people from the shot.
With an early train to catch the next morning, my chances of finding a peaceful moment for a perfect, people-free photograph were slim. Instead, I had to shift my focus and find new angles and subjects to work with – and here is that tram I like so much.
