I visited South Korea for the first time in my life in June 2019. It was a nice trip and I was very jet lagged because door to door it took me more than 24 hours. There is no direct flight from Zürich to Seoul. I flew first to Hongkong and then 5 hours later to Seoul where I got picked up by my friends. According to my navigation skills, it should have taken only 30 minutes to drive to the hotel where I was staying. Unfortunately, there was another airport I was flying to that was over 4 hours driving away!? I did not pay attention while booking the flight – the airport I was flying to is the international one; the one flight arrive and depart outside Asia. If I would have payed attention, I most probably would have figured out that there is an airport way closer to where I needed to go… Lesson learned.
About the photograph itself: I took this close to a subway station from the hotel I was staying at. There was not much around – I walked quite a bit in the area and could not find any attractive photos pots but the station and some place with hanging umbrellas. And of course some restaurants serving good Korean food and beer.
I was planning to go back there this year but due to COVID-19 I had to cancel the trip. It was kind of OK to cancel all my trips so far. I had a lot of time to work on things that I started but never finished. Nevertheless, I still regret to cancel the flight to South Korea and Japan. I was really looking to get back to those countries and make some more photographs. I like the mix of the old fashioned ways versus the modern look in South Korea and Japan.
Post processing Tip:
I am over on Facebook as well and I get reminded on posts that I took a few year back. This is really cool because I start criticize my own photographs. Some of the photos are really terrible to look at but I think this is what every photographer has to go thru. Digital Art is like, every other skill, connected to a learning curve, and when I started, I overcooked almost all my photographs because I wanted certain effects to be strongly visible. I sometimes still do the same, but now I wait for a day until I finish the post processing part of my photo. Sometimes I dial back a few sliders…
