The Z 14-30mm F 1:4 is a very compact and light lens. Since I most of the time will use this lens to make landscape photographs, it does not really matter if the lowest F-Stop is only 4 – it was not worth the price difference for me to go for F2.8.
I was also quite amazed of the quality of the photos when I tested the lens. I did some test shots with different F-Stops and looked at the photo later in Lightroom fully zoomed in. The photo with F-Stop 4 has very little (hardly noticeable) blur in the corners of the photos.
Besides, the lens covers a very ideal range of focal length. So far, I was working with the kit lens (24 – 70mm) that came with the camera. Often I was at a focal length of 24mm for landscape and travel photography – this is now covered as well! There are not many options out there (yet) for a wide angle lens in this price range. And I do not regret to buy the lens so far.
Conclusion:
The weight and the quality makes this my new travel buddy. I still have space available in my backpack when packing for a trip. I did not add this to my packing list, but if you want to see how I get prepared, grab my free eBook here.
