A Closer Look at Alcatraz

7. September 2019

My friend always asks me to take a photograph of Alcatraz when I am in San Francisco – et voilà… I never take a boat to Alcatraz because I simply think it is too expensive and not worth it. But on the other hand I like the scene of the ex-prison.

What I do instead of taking an Alcatraz Tour? Simple, I take a ferry operating between Navy Pier and Sausalito. With this ferry you get to see a close look at Alcatraz and later you can enjoy the beautiful skyline of San Francisco from the other side of the bay.

Photography Tip:

I was putting my camera into S-Mode. This means that the shutter speed is what you have to set up. Since I was on a fastmoving boat, I tired to be at a low shutter speed. In this photograph it was 1/320 of a second – the camera calculated an F-Stop of 5.6, the ISO was fixed at 100.

  • Do you want to learn photography?

Do it with me and jump over to my store. There are several eBooks and presets I have been working on over the past few years – no kidding, it took me quite some time to make all this happen! And I am still working on it, there is more to come!

  • My Next Trip

My next trip brings me into a country I have never been before, Portugal. I will host two photo workshops, one in Lisbon and the other one in the Algarve. I will travelling to Portugal to recon the places before hosting the photo workshops.
