While driving from Montenegro to Croatia, I captured this photograph. Although not aerial, it was taken from the highway that traverses above Dubrovnik. The view from that vantage point is simply breathtaking.
Dubrovnik, a city of history, shows a rich and storied past. Its origins trace back to the 7th century when it was founded by refugees fleeing barbarian invasions. This ancient city, with its imposing walls and awesome architecture, became the perfect backdrop for the filming of “Game of Thrones”.
Starting in 2011, Dubrovnik’s Old Town served as the setting for King’s Landing – the capital of the Seven Kingdoms in the acclaimed TV series. The city’s walls, narrow streets, and historic buildings were brought to life on screen, for all audiences worldwide. The show’s presence brought attention to Dubrovnik, drawing fans of the series and curious travellers eager to explore the real-life locations of their beloved fictional world. The city continues to attract visitors, leaving a lasting legacy as a prominent filming location for one of television’s most beloved series.
Photography Tip: Polarizing Filter
I’ve found that polarizing filters can do wonders for boosting the richness of tones and colors in my photos – before I retouch them in Adobe Lightroom. They’re great at cutting down reflections and haze caused by the sun, which helps maintain stunning details in the sky.
There are two types of polarizing filters: linear and circular, and each works its magic in its own unique way by manipulating light waves. I’ve used both of them while Driving from Montenegro to Croatia.
