As many of you are aware, I’m an enthusiast when it comes to flying quadcopters to capture aerial photos. In my collection, I have two models from the brand DJI. The trusty older model in my repertoire is the Mavic 2 Pro, ideal for handling windier conditions. However, for budget considerations, I recently added the DJI Mini 4 Pro to my gear. This lighter and beginner-to-intermediate model has proven to be a great choice. Excitingly, this very model has just received a significant update.
For the recently released DJI Mini 4 Pro mini quadcopter, the manufacturer has introduced a firmware update that offers some extraordinary features. The update includes the Video Assist, previously only available on larger aircraft from the manufacturer. Now, it allows the cameras used for obstacle detection to be utilized for live viewing on the remote control.
While they provide only a low-resolution black-and-white image, this gives the pilot the ability to glance backward or sideways during flight.
The camera’s object tracking received an update to the ActiveTrack 360 AUTO version. This enhancement ensures that individuals tracked by the camera remain at the center of the video recording. Simultaneously, the DJI Mini 4 Pro automatically circles around this object or performs a Helix flight figure alongside the circular motion, creating particularly dynamic shots.
Additionally, the update enables the drone to collaborate with the manufacturer’s latest FPV goggles and can be loaded via the remote control of the DJI Mini 4 Pro.
Incidentally, this photograph was captured a few years ago over Lake Lucerne using my Mavic 2 Pro. I don’t have the exact location where I took this photo. However, the DJI products (at least in the past) automatically geo-coded the photographs. Looking for location (Map feature), I simply load the photo to Adobe Lightroom.
